Beyond the Mat: Mom Crush Monday Recap with Deb Flashenberg of Prenatal Yoga Center in NYC

April's Mom Crush Monday featured Deb Flashenberg, the founder and director of the renowned Prenatal Yoga Center , aka PYC, in New York City and host of the "Yoga, Birth, Babies" podcast.

Debra Flashenberg, Owner/Founder of Prenatal Yoga Center NYC and host of the "Yoga, Birth, Babies" Podcast (YBB).

My connection with Deb goes back nearly 8 years to when I received my RPYT certification at PYC. I still keep in touch with Deb and many of the wonderful women I met during that training. Understandable, PYC is a connection haven, not only for it's class and workshop participants, but also for it's trainees!

Deb's journey is as fascinating as it is inspiring. Starting her career as a singer and dancer, she eventually found her passion in yoga. Initially torn between pursuing yoga or dance, Deb decided to follow her heart, leading her to establish the Prenatal Yoga Center in her early twenties. Her decision was influenced by her desire to incorporate childbirth education into her teachings, a passion sparked by witnessing childbirth in a hospital setting and from her own birth experience with her first child.

Over the past 22 years, Deb has poured her heart and soul into building and nurturing PYC. She's constantly seeking ways to improve herself and her offerings, earning certifications and constantly thirsting for knowledge to be the best resource for her students and families. Deb's dedication to her craft is evident, not only in the growth of her business but also in the impact it has on the lives of those she touches through PYC and the podcast.

During our conversation, Deb shared insights into the challenges of balancing business ownership and motherhood. From starting the studio in 2002 to learning how to write a business plan as a musical theater major, she highlighted the importance of setting boundaries and being concise to maintain a healthy work-life balance. Deb also discusses the value of a mentor during this time and the lessons she's learned as a mom and entrepreneur over the past 20+ years.

Deb also shared the importance of building a trusting team and learning to delegate. As a studio owner and mother, she's had to let go of control and trust her team to handle things in her absence. This shift hasn't been easy, but Deb recognizes its necessity for both her business and her personal life. She's especially grateful for the reach that online classes have brought, allowing her to connect with students from all over the world.

Deb's prenatal yoga center changes lives one birth at a time, to create a better experience for expecting moms to feel stronger and more energized during their pregnancy and a smoother recovery after birth.

Deb's story encapsulates the essence of Mom Crush Monday—passion and purpose. Her dedication to supporting expecting families and empowering mothers is truly inspiring. During our conversation, she shared practical advice for moms interested in starting their own businesses, emphasizing the importance of finding support, setting goals, and visualizing success.

When it comes to creating her village, Deb relies on her friendships and connections within her community. She makes a conscious effort to stay connected with other moms, even amidst their busy schedules. Through her work at the Prenatal Yoga Center, Deb has created a space that not only provides valuable resources but also fosters a sense of community and support for expecting families.
